Q: How are Dr. Long's services different from traditional psychotherapy?
A: There are three main differences between traditional psychotherapy and coaching. Those differences include the idea that therapy is usually focused on one’s past whereas coaching is focused on the present moment and one’s future. Additionally, psychotherapy usually assumes there is something that is “broken,” and therefore must be “fixed,” whereas coaching is oriented towards identifying one’s strengths and employing them to reach an even greater potential. Furthermore, the therapeutic relationship often takes on a doctor/patient dynamic, whereas coaching is more collaborative, empowering the individual, who will eventually learn they can control their own destiny.
Q: What does a typical coaching protocol consist of?
A: Usually most clients choose to have the initial consultation over the phone or in person. During the first session, the client and Dr. Long will begin establishing rapport, client interview, and complete the B.A.L.A.N.C.E needs assessment. The first session usually last between 90-120 minutes. During the second session, the results of the needs assessment will be reviewed and this will be the meeting where goals are developed collaboratively. Each session after this is used to measure progress and discuss roadblocks along the way.
Q: Who needs a life coach?

When you consider the expenses the average person pays along the way to achieve a false sense of happiness, a life coach can be a priceless asset to one's life. Dr. Long's approach is revolutionary in that it first attends to our core needs and then applies that to our outside life.
